Rackstraw Farmhouse

GV II

Farmhouse, now restaurant and wine bar. Late C16, altered C18,
altered and extended mid C20.
MATERIALS: timber frame mostly encased in red brick in Flemish
bond. Old tile hipped and half-hipped roof.
PLAN: rectangular plan of 4 framed bays with extensions at
rear.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys. Large chimney near ridge to right of
centre, with corniced head, clay pots and rebated angles. C19
casement windows with glazing bars, those on ground floor with
segmental heads. Entrance front to south has 3-bays. Right
hand bay taller with hipped roof, 3-light window and 4-light
window on ground floor. On right of these is C20 glazed
entrance door in lean-to enclosed porch. Some timber frame
visible on right return.
INTERIOR: ground floor joists are mostly chamfered with
spearhead stops. Other joists plain. Large inglenook chimney.
The principal beams on the first floor are chamfered with
shield stops.
