Detached house, one of a group of five. 1865. Stuccoed brick. Slate hipped roof behind parapet with moulded cornices. Side brick stacks.
PLAN: Two rooms on either side of a central stair hall.
EXTERIOR: Two storeys. Three bay west front on to Christchurch Road. Two bay south front on to Grafton Road. West front has three 4-pane sashes on the first floor with ogee profile canopies on cast iron brackets. Ground floor has central ogee tented canopy on ornate cast iron brackets forming a porch with door with fanlights and sidelights flanked by five-light square bays with tented canopies. South front has verandah on the ground floor with ornate cast-iron openwork piers supporting an ogee-profile canopy and a tripartite sash on the left and canted bay on the right with French casements and panelled shutters: Two 4-pane sashes on the first floor with ogee-profile canopies on ornate cast iron brackets.
INTERIOR: Not inspected but identical adjoining properties have simple marble chimneypieces. Moulded plaster ceiling borders and cornices. Original joinery including panelled doors and dog-leg cut-string staircases with stick balusters, turned newels and mahogany handrails.
No 29 is identical to nos 2-8 Grafton Road on the south elevation but has a more elaborate frontage on Christchurch Road. Part of an interesting mid Victorian group of stuccoed villas in the Regency style.
