A C19 milepost of painted cast iron, consisting of a cylindrical post with a fluted domed top, with an attached rectangular plate. The inscriptions are cast in relief; left face: LEEK 11 MILES; right face: NEWCASTLE 1/2 MILE.

HISTORY: The milepost was erected by the Newcastle under Lyme Turnpike Trust. It was cast by Hales of Cobridge, Stoke on Trent, c.1879.

The milepost SW of 'The Polite Vicar' public house is listed at Grade II for the following reasons:
