MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar to front and left side, ashlar and rubble to rear; double pile parapeted roof hipped to left and to right to front roof, Welsh slate to front roof, double Romans to rear, has two ashlar stacks to left and ashlar right end stack with early clay pots to rear roof. Staircase to left side.
EXTERIOR: Three storeys with basement to rear; three-window front First floor has three six/six sashes in splayed reveals with stone sills. Second floor has three similar windows. Ground floor has two six/six sashes with exposed boxes in similar reveals, door in return face of single storey flat roofed ashlar extension to left has six flush beaded and fielded panels and cast iron wreath knocker with single-pane overlight in plain reveal flanked by two three-pane fixed light windows in plain reveals. Band course over ground floor; bracketed eaves cornice and coped parapet. Right side has six/six sash in splayed reveal with stone sill to first floor and second floor. Left side has two C20 six/six sashes in plain reveals with stone sills lighting staircase at half levels. Rear elevation has C19 and C20 horned and unhorned sashes and casements, C20 conservatory to basement.
INTERIOR: Not inspected; extensively refurbished in the 1970's.
HISTORY: This building appears to pre-date the rest of Ainslie¿s Belvedere, and probably began as an isolated suburban villa. The masonry construction and modillion cornice point to a mid-C18 ¿perhaps c1760- date. This house was the District Police station for most of the C19 (Bath Guide 1853, p.118).
