Two houses, now flats. From 1808. By John Pinch the Elder.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar to front, limestone ashlar and rubble to rear. Roof covering not visible behind parapet, coped party walls with brick and ashlar stacks to left of each house.
EXTERIOR: Each house has four storeys and basement, three-window range. First floor to left has three C19 plate glass and two/two horned sashes in plain reveals with wrought iron balconettes similar to No.19 Park Street (qv), first floor to right has three six/nine-sashes in plain reveals with similar balconettes. Second floor has to left three C19 plate glass horned sashes in plain reveals, three similar windows to third floor right. Ground floor has to left three C19 plate glass horned sashes in plain reveals with stone sills, that to right former doorway, ground floor to right has two plate glass sashes in plain reveals with stone sills, to right six-panel door with reeded and raised and fielded panels with decorative fanlight with crown glass in square headed beaded reveal, one step to pennant paved crossover with cast iron footscraper. Basement has had all openings blocked in ashlar, crossover to former house to left and area steps removed. Band courses over ground floors to left and right form sill bands to first floor windows, sill bands to second floors, friezes and moulded cornices over second floors, moulded eaves cornices and coped parapets. Wrought iron lampholder over front door. Windows to rear elevation C19 except to ground floor and second half landing of house to right.
INTERIOR: Not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: Attached wrought iron railings with shaped tops on limestone bases.
HISTORY: Part of incomplete St James's Square development on land leased by Fielder, King, Hewlett and Broom[e] from Sir Peter Rivers Gay 25 March 1790; upper part of Park Street commenced to design of John Palmer and continued but not completed to design of John Pinch after 1808, street formerly terminated by All Saints Chapel at top and intended to be continued in a NW direction as Regent Place.
