House, now flats. From 1808. By John Pinch the Elder.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar to front, limestone ashlar and rubble to rear. Double pile parapeted roof, covering not visible behind parapet, coped party wall to left with two brick and ashlar stacks with some early clay pots to front and rear.
EXTERIOR: Four storeys and basement, three-window range. First floor has three C19 plate glass horned sashes in plain reveals with wrought iron balconettes similar to Nos 19 and 20 Park Street (qv), ground floor has three similar windows without balconettes, third floor has two similar windows with stone sills and one blocked window opening to centre. Ground floor has two similar windows to left, to right pair of doors each of three panels with round panel to centre, with decorative fanlight in round headed beaded reveal, one step to pennant paved crossover with cast iron footscraper. Basement has two six/six-sashes with wrought iron security bars with shaped heads, half-glazed door and four-pane overlight in ashlar infilling under crossover, pennant area steps with wrought iron hand-rail. Band course over ground floor forming sill band to first floor windows, sill band to second floor, frieze and moulded cornice over second floor, moulded eaves cornice and coped parapet. Rear elevation has C19 horned plate glass sashes, early canted bay to ground floor with six/six-sashes in plain reveals with stone sills and wrought iron railing attached to exterior, bay extended upwards in ashlar in C19.
INTERIOR: Not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: Attached wrought iron railings and gate with shaped tops on limestone bases.
HISTORY: Part of incomplete St James's Square development on land leased by Fielder, King, Hewlett and Broom from Sir Peter Rivers Gay 25 March 1790; upper part of Park Street commenced to design of John Palmer and continued but not completed to design of John Pinch after 1808, street formerly terminated by All Saints Chapel at top and intended to be continued in a NW direction as Regent Place.
