Four terrace houses stepped downhill from No.18 to left. Mid/late C19.
MATERIALS: Coursed limestone rubble with freestone architraves, pantile roofs with moulded stacks to coped party walls and gable ends.
PLAN: Double depth plans with rear additions.
EXTERIOR: Two storeys, each house has two-window range. Two/two-pane sash windows to first floors, and to ground floor of No.21 to right. Nos 18-20 have paired plate glass sash window to ground floor and C20 doors except No.20, which has C19 four-panel door with hood on wrought iron scroll brackets. No.21 to right wider and possibly later with larger stones to right of vertical joint to left of right-of-centre door. Carved into lintel `HOPE COTTAGE¿, cast iron ornamental pediment above lintel has 1876 cast into it. At right angles to Nos 12 to 17. Mid C19 similar row of stepped two storey cottages. Two windows first floor, coupled sashes ground floor. No.21 has two windows to both floors. Rusticated quoins and door and window surrounds. No.21 has cast iron cresting over door with date of 1876. Included for group interest. Nos 12 to 21 (consec) form a group.
