House, now flats. Late C18 with C19 alterations.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar to front, painted up to first floor sill band, rubble to rear partially visible; double pile parapeted mansard roof extending fanboards to front right, artificial slate to front and rear, with coped party wall to right, ashlar stack shared with No.1 Burlington Place (qv) to left on front slope of front roof, not visible to rear.
PLAN: Burlington Place (including No.2 Gloucester Street) quasi-symmetrical composition with terminating three bay pavilions breaking forward from two recessed bays to centre with horizontal elements of design continuous throughout (cf. Brunswick Place qv). No.2 has one bay in pavilion to right breaking forward and containing staircase to front.
EXTERIOR: Three storeys, attic and basement, two window front. First floor has to left plate glass in plain reveal with wrought iron balconette, to right plate glass horned sash in plain reveal with lowered stone sill. Second floor has plate glass sash in plain reveal with stone sill to left, similar sash with horns to right. Ground floor has to left six/six horned sash in plain reveal with stone sill, to right six panel door with flush beaded, fielded and glazed panels with cast iron lion's mask knocker with concrete step in pedimented Doric doorcase. Basement has two horned two/two sashes in plain reveals with continuous stone sill, unmoulded six panel door under crossover, concrete crossover area to left to probable former inserted door opening. Two single dormers with two/two sashes to right with horns, three pane casement to left return face of break forward to right. Band course over ground floor; weathered sill band cut through by window to right to first floor, bracketed eaves cornice and coped parapet. Lead hopperhead and part lead downpipe in angle.
INTERIOR: Not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: Attached wrought iron railings with shaped heads on limestone bases.
