GLOUCESTER STREET
(East side)

No.3
05/08/75

GV II

Terrace house, now shops. Late C18, altered early C19 with C20 addition.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, double Roman tile roof with gable to left return.
PLAN: Three-unit plan.
EXTERIOR: Two storeys and basement; symmetrical three-window range to upper floors. Coped parapet rises over gable to return, returned cornice and ground floor platband. Eight/eight-pane sash windows flank six/six-pane central sashes to upper floors, those to first floor have balconettes. To left of central windows bell-head lead downpipe. Shop characteristic of butchers' shops. Wide canopy on plain wrought iron supports over shop above platband covers front and left return. Shop windows were probably formerly small and on brackets, C20 tiled plinth steps out to each side, present window to front of three plate glass panes on brackets, two panes to left return. C20 door and blocked overlight to front right. To right of shop are steps up to flush six-panel door with eight/eight-pane sash to left.
INTERIOR: Not inspected.
HISTORY: The lease for No. 3 is dated 5th March 1768 but it is unlikely that anything from this date survives.
