GV II

Thirteen terrace houses, each stepped uphill from No.1 to right. Early C19 with late C19 alterations. Possibly by John Pinch (Ison).
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, some painted, slate and double Roman tile roofs with moulded stacks to party walls and left end.
PLAN: Double depth plans.
EXTERIOR: Two storeys and lower ground floor, each house is two bays wide. Nos 1-12 have coped parapets, cornices that step around pilasters to right of each houses and flank No.12 to left, ground floor platbands, banded rustication and radial voussoirs to ground floor openings. Formerly with six/six-pane sash windows, six-panel doors to right with overlights that gradually diminish in height towards No.12 which has very narrow one, those to Nos 1-6 are blocked, Nos 1-5 have small circular windows to right of doors Nos 1 and 6 have `LOWER CAMDEN PLACE' carved into platbands, implying that terrace may have been built in two stages. No.1 plate glass sash windows, balconettes to first floor and blocked overlight to four-panel door. No.2 has similar windows and six-panel door. No.3 similar to No.2. No.4 has six/six-pane sash windows and six-panel door. No.5 has plate glass sash windows and five-panel door glazed to top. No.6 has six/six-pane sash windows and six-panel door. No.7 is similar. No.8 has plate glass sash windows and six-panel door. No.9 is similar to No.8 with small window to right of door. No.10 has similar windows and late C19 four-panel door. No.11 has similar windows with late C19 cast iron cresting to first floor sills. No.12 has balconettes to six/six-pane sash windows and six-panel door glazed to top. No.13 is later, not rusticated and without pilasters. It has ornamental stops to chamfered arrises of two six/six-pane sash windows to first floor and one plate glass sash to left of ground floor under timber bressumer. A six-panel door glazed to top has small circular window and inset boot scraper to right.
