House, now flats. c1777-1784 with C19 and C20 alterations. By John Wood the Younger.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar to front, ashlar and rubble to rear; double pile parapeted mansard roof raised to accommodate further rooms in roof, Welsh slate to front and rear, with coped party wall with two ashlar stacks to right, that to front rebuilt.
PLAN: Staircase to rear.
EXTERIOR: Three storeys, attic and basement with further rooms in roof; three-window range. First floor has three plate glass horned sashes in splayed ovolo moulded architraves with friezes and cornices with lowered moulded stone sills on console brackets; second floor has three six/six sashes in ovolo moulded architraves with stone sills. Ground floor has two plate glass horned sashes in splayed reveals with stone sills to right, to left six-panel door with flush, fielded and glazed panels set deep within stone doorcase with cyma moulded architrave and moulded cornice on console brackets forming hood, pennant paved crossover flush with pavement. Basement has two six/six sashes in plain reveals with stone sills, partially infilled beneath crossover in ashlar and concrete blockwork, C20 area steps. One double and one single dormer with six/six sashes. Band course over ground floor, modillion eaves cornice and coped parapet; lead downpipe attached to right. Rear elevation has oriel bay to first floor with four/six, six/nine, four/six sashes; ashlar and rendered extension off staircase up to second half landing with C19 and C20 casement windows; reconstituted Bath stone extension to ground floor. Plate glass sash to ground floor; eight/eight sash to second floor.
INTERIOR: Inspected by Bath Council 1973. White marble fireplace with moulded brackets. Wooden stairs, three balusters per tread. Very ornate fireplace on second floor.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: Attached wrought iron railings and gate with shaped heads on painted bases.
