Description

WIDCOMBE HILL
656-1/42/1901 (South side)
No.4
05/08/75

GV II

House in row. c1800/Late C18, later raised single storey early C19.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, coursed rubble to rear, slate roof.
EXTERIOR: Three storeys, one window, all sashes, six pane to stooled sill above triple stepped eight pane, and paired eight pane to ground floor. To left original flush four panel door under thin slab hood with moulded edge on shaped brackets. Full width thin drip courses above ground and first floors, and sill band to first floor. Raised coped gables, two stage ashlar stack to right.
Rear has small four pane sash above plain casement with drip course at first floor.
INTERIOR: Not inspected.
An old-fashioned elevation, forming part of the first phase of development in this part of the city. String courses to front seem anachronistic, but remainder of detail to this C18 facade.
