Milepost. Late C18 or early C19. Sandstone and cast iron. Tall stone with rounded top, rising approximately 1.5m from pavement level, and approximately 450mm wide, built into boundary wall of adjacent property (not included), and carries square cast iron plate with raised lettering and edging, with inscription: `1 Mile/from the/Guildhall/ BATH', painted in black on white background. Post opposite and approx 20m to east of entrance gates to Crowe Hall (qv), and in good condition, possibly with replaced plate. Presumably erected by the Bath Turnpike Trust. They continued in use for many years and can be seen attached to buildings of the 1860's (see London Road; Lark Place, Upper Bristol Road; and Lower Bristol Road).
