Public house. Early C19.
MATERIALS: Painted limestone rubble, double pitched hipped slate roof with large moulded square stack to centre and smaller stacks to right and rear.
PLAN: Double depth plan.
EXTERIOR: Two storeys, eight-window range. Formerly with six/six-pane sash windows with chamfered architraves, two to both outer ends with balconettes, two to inside left retain six/six-panes. Four central windows flanked by pilasters with moulded caps up to eaves. To far left of ground floor blocked window with timber lintel, to inside left large projecting doorcase with pilasters and keystone to moulded archivolt over plain semicircular fanlight and double two-panel doors, probably late C19, six/six-pane sash window to left of centre, central door and overlight, early C19 dentil cornice and fascia to C20 restored three-light shop window to right of centre, timber lintel to plate glass sash window to far right. Left return cants back into Penhill Road, small four-pane windows to ground floor and large paired six/six-pane sash windows to first floor. Three similar windows to rear of first floor. Wrought iron bracket to right of centre supports three-dimensional anchor and crown.
INTERIOR: Ground floor altered, but retaining fireplace surrounds of a C18 character; large room first floor simple, probably unaltered.
