Roman Catholic schools, now church. 1853.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar with pantile roof.
PLAN: Single cell with ancillary rooms plan.
EXTERIOR: Two storey front with basement, seven bays, one:five:one, ends breaking forward slightly with Doric pilasters flanking their first floors. Horizontal grooving to ground floor above plinth, except for rusticated quoin pilasters, platband, sill course. Basement window heads show in plinth. Central and side doors flank windows. Seven first floor windows. All windows are six/six sashes, ground floor ones have heads with dropped keystones, upper floor ones have recessed surrounds. Frieze with string, cornice, parapet with dies and raised central date panel with cornice on consoles and segmental open pediment over, roof not visible to front. Truncated ashlar stacks without pots. Rear elevation shows attic floor with six contemporary iron windows of industrial type, presumably to Sunday School, or classroom.
INTERIOR: Two storey height chapel with balcony on cast iron columns and with decorative iron balustrade.
HISTORY: This building was used as a Catholic School prior to the opening of new schools next to St. John's (qv) on South Parade in 1868.
