Summary

A section of wall with gate piers and gates constructed in 1897 for Joseph Lucas of Foxhunt Manor.

Description

A section of wall with gate piers and gates constructed in 1897 for Joseph Lucas of Foxhunt Manor.

MATERIALS: brick walls with stone piers and cast iron gates.

PLAN: entrances with carriage and pedestrian gates supported by piers and flanked by sections of curved wall.

DETAILS: at either side are sections of low brick walling in Sussex bond, with curved brick coping, ramped up towards the centre where they merge into brick piers in Flemish bond with rendered plinths and cornices. A cast iron pedestrian gate and a pair of carriage gates with dog rails and scrollwork are attached to these and a freestanding pier, similar but with a stone ball finial.

History

The entrance to Foxhunt Manor was probably built in 1897, the date of the adjoining lodge. It was probably designed by Frederick Reeve, a land agent from Halland, who is thought to have designed the main house.
