Description

Possibly 18th century. Random rubble sandstone with
brick repairs, formerly harled. Gabled rectangular,
single storey building with crowsteps and pantiles, with
projecting stone wall at W housing semi-circular arched
recess. Blocked window on E elevation and sparse
modern lean-to adjoined. Wide opening on N gable with
steel lintel. Partial flight of steps remaining from
former forestair on projecting wall of E gable. Vaulted
stone ceiling to interior.

Statement of Interest

Originally an L-plan building as shown on 1854 OS map.

Possibly part of Roxburgh Estate at some stage, serving

as lookout post before Sloebigging Tower was built. It

may have functioned as an early boathouse or lifeboat

house. Decorative cast-iron drinking fountain by

Glenfield and Kennedy Ltd of Kilmarnock, set by E

elevation.
