Mid 19th century. Single segmental-arched bridge set low to water with gently splayed wing walls. Granite rubble with dressed voussoirs and quoins. Slightly rounded red sandstone copes to parapet.
A traditional bridge occupying a central position in Clova village. The bridge seems to appear on the First Edition OS map (although the scale is a bit too small to be certain). James Knox's map of 1850 shows the Glen Clova road (between Clova and Braedownie) running along the S side of the River South Esk. The line of the road was evidently re-drawn between 1850 and 1862 and it is most likely that this bridge was built as part of the improvement. The original list description gives a date of circa 1861 for the bridge, but doesn't say what this is based on.
