Description

Circa 1835. Burn-school Jacobethan 2-storey farmhouse of Wemyss Estate. Squared and coursed ashlar with chamfered arrises and hoodmoulds to major openings. Squared and stugged red sandstone to sides and rear. Later wing to N.

S ELEVATION: 3-bay, with broad advanced gabled bay to left. Gabled porch projecting at centre in re-entrant angle; doorway with deep stop-chamfered reveals and strip fanlight. Single windows flanking at ground and to each bay at 1st floor, breaking eaves in gabled dormerheads. W ELEVATION: 3 windows to each floor, breaking eaves at 1st floor in gabled dormerheads.

E ELEVATION: single window to gable end at ground, 2 at 1st floor.

Later grey sandstone 4-bay wing adjoining to N with lean-to additions at rear. Sash and case windows with 12-lying pane glazing pattern to 1st floor, plate glass glazing at ground and to N wing. Grey slates, coped skews with beak skewputts. Large coped ashlar stacks with decorative cans.

Statement of Interest

Style and date similar to Craiglielaw Cottages to E, and Bothy Cottage within Gosford policies (listed separately).
