Description

Circa 1880. Bold arch linked to 2-stage Baronial, square-plan
tower with circular stair tower adjoined. Red sandstone
ashlar with battered base courses, string course and
chamfered arrises to openings.
W ELEVATION: windows to ground and 1st floor; taller tower to
right; both with corbelled parapet with blind circle and
square ornament.
GATE: round-arched gateway with moulded surround to
semi-circle; parapet raised at centre with blank panel;
flanking piers with billeted caps, detailed as stair tower
parapet. Squared and snecked rubble, ashlar coped wall
running N and S.
E ELEVATION: doorway set in raised surround on N return; post
1952 flat-roofed extension at ground.

Probably built when the Abbey was under the ownership of

Walter Wingate Gray.
