Description

c.1600 Trad. 2 1/2 storeys. Rubble. Corbie-step-gabled.
Slated roof. Gabled dormers. Square 3 1/2 storey
stair-tower (with corbelled turret in re-entrant angle)
on S. side. Interior modernised. Fore-court on N. side
flanked by corbie-stepped offices and stables and
entered by Renaissance gateway (inscribed MIE, Anno
1665)

Statement of Interest

Land acquired 1664 by John Ellis, advocate (of the

family of Plenland, West Lothian and Southsyde,

Midlothian) and house altered. Passed to Hamiltons 1693

and to 3rd Earl of Hopetown 1765.
