Description

Mid 19th century. Single storey and attic rectangular plan
gate lodge. Squared and snecked red sandstone with stugged
and broached ashlar dressings.
S ELEVATION: 2-bay. Boarded door to right, bipartite
window to left and breaking eaves in crowstepped gabled
dormer above at centre.
N ELEVATION: lean-to rubble addition and slate-hung
piend-roofed dormer.
W ELEVATION: bowed bay with stone mullioned bipartite, at
centre.
E ELEVATION: 3-irregular openings, left opening blind.
Diamond-pane glazing pattern, some bordered, to casement
windows. Piend roof; grey slates, swept eaves. Ashlar
diamond stack at centre.
Low coped ashlar quadrant to E with 4 square, rusticated
and corniced ashlar piers.

Statement of Interest

Lodge to Thurston House, (demolished 1952). N Lodge and

Dovecot listed separately. Listed category B as cottage

ornee style of Lodge.
