Description

Earlier to mid 19th century. 2-storey, irregular-plan, gabled farmhouse with single storey and single storey and attic service wings to rear. Red and cream snecked rubble, droved and margined ashlar dressings, slate roof. Base course to S, W and E; windows mostly 12-lying-pane sash and case with chamfered reveals; deep boarded eaves with plain bargeboards, brick end and wallhead stacks, corniced ashlar diagonal wallhead stack to rear of main house.

S ELEVATION: single storey gabled entrance porch at centre, panelled door with astragalled fanlight, window to left and right returns, window to main elevation above; slightly advanced gable at left, window to ground and 1st floor; slightly advanced narrow gable to right, window to ground and 1st floor.

E ELEVATION: main gable at left, window to ground and 1st floor; single storey and attic wing slightly recessed at right; two 24-pane sash and case windows, 2 small attic windows to right return; single storey wing further recessed at right, 2 windows, 12-lying-pane to left, 12-small-pane to right and at right return.

W ELEVATION: main gable at right, window to ground and 1st floor, window to 1st floor return; small single storey L-plan wing to left, window to gable at left, window to slightly recessed bay at right.

N ELEVATION: window to ground and 1st floor at centre of main elevation; various doors and windows to wings advanced at left and right.

INTERIOR: not seen.

GARDEN WALL, GATES AND GATEPIERS: flat-coped rubble, curved garden wall to W, 2 pyramidal-capped ashlar gatepiers with decorative cast-iron gates.

Statement of Interest

The rear wallhead diagonal stack suggests that all stacks were originally of this design.
