Description

Circa 1800; hexagonal single storey summer house, harled with
ashlar margins. Entrnce with double panelled doors on landward
side, with large re-used marriage stone as lintel, dated 1760.
3 windows to seaward side checked for external shutters, for
which hooks remain; 12-pane glazing. Small margined wallhead
stack; pyramidal slate roof with ball finial and weathervane.
Short rubble quadrants flank centre seaward bay, with ashlar
copes. Simple plastered interior with moulded fire place with
panelled overmantel. Stone slab floors.

Statement of Interest

Sited in wooded policies on cliff edge. Said to have served as

a light house, but more likely as a lookout and gazebo, and

also said to have been a landmark for shipping before being

masked by trees. Marriage stone dated 1760, has initials

H ML and I F, with centre sun motif and coats of arms.
