Mid-19th century, incorporating earlier fabric. 2-storey
originally T-plan farmhouse with later wings and single
storey service wing at rear, Squared and snecked yellow
sandstone with ashlar dressings; eaves course,
chamfered reveals.
S ELEVATION: 4-bay. 2 central bays recessed; Tudor-
arched doorway to left bay with bracketted, gabled
canopy and fanlight with tracery. Window to right,
2 windows at 1st floor just breaking eaves in steep
crowstepped gabled dormer heads. Outer gabled wings
broad and advanced, the outer right a later addition.
Canted bay windows to each at ground, with cornice and
blocking course, probably contemporary with right wing
addition. Single window at 1st floor to left, stone
bipartite to right bay.
N ELEVATION (rear) small L-plan projecting wing in angle
of main block with stair block between, forming 3 gabled
bays. Later wing to left, recessed slightly. Irregular
fenestration; window at ground of main block, 1st floor
window blocked. Round-headed stair window,
crowstepped gabled dormerhead to 1st floor window of
wing. 2 rear entrances via piend-roofed service wing
adjoined to stair block.
E and W elevations with single irregular openings.
Various glazing patterns to sash and case windows; some
modern plate glass at rear.
Crowstepped skews, moulded beak skewputts. Diamond-plan
corniced stacks with Jacobean details; triple ridge
stacks to main block, corbelled gablehead stack to W
wing. Shouldered wallhead stack to later E wing.
Decorative cans. Grey slates.
May incorporate fabric of earlier building on site.
Masonry shows evidence of 2, possibly 3 phases of
construction in 19th century.
