Description

Built circa 1822. Large, quadrangular walled garden with yard
to north enclosing potting sheds and outbuildings; 3
adjoining single storey cottages beyond.
Garden walls: built of brick with ashlar coping and archways
(central gate on each wall); continuous (temporary) animal
pen lean-to's now line inner walls, original lean-to potting
and boiler sheds abut outer north wall and modern animal pens
abut outer south wall; small "triumphal arch" forms west
gate; pedimented north gate with paired pilasters. Yard
enclosed by rubble-built ashlar-coped wall with square
gatepiers.
Cottages: built in (at least) 3 phases and arranged roughly
in T-plan; all have 3 bays with central door and are built of
stugged red ashlar with polished dressings; original
south-facing cottage with 16-pane glazing; other cottages
north-facing, doubled in depth probably late 19th century,
and arranged symmetrically; inner 2 bays on north elevation
advanced, with tripartites. Sash windows throughout with
small-paned glazing; coped stacks; all roof piended, with
graded slates.
