Later 18th centuey. Symmetrical 3-storey 5-bay mansion house over partially raised basement. S front is whin rubble with yellow long and short ashlar dressings, harled side and rear elevations. Ground floor openings altered. Central round-headed and keystoned doorway, panelled door with fanlight and sidelights. Relieving arches over ground floor openings. 6-pane 3rd floor sashes, eaves/lintel band, otherwise 12-pane sashes. Bold, shouldered and coped end stacks; piended and platformed roof. Some modern extensions to north.
Agricultural Survey of Fife, published 1800, includes Coates amongst a series of properties whihc had been wholly built or substantially added to within "last 24 years".
