Description

Later 19th century. 2-storey (with attic to rear), 3-bay classical detached villa, with single storey wing to right. Ashlar, channelled at ground floor; squared, stugged sandstone to wing. Base course; central dividing band course; 1st floor cill course; eaves course; modillion cornice; pilastered quoins.

SE (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: steps to central fluted Doric-columned entrance porch; modillion cornice; balustraded parapet; 2-leaf timber door; letterbox fanlight; single window aligned above at 1st floor. Bipartite windows at both floors to flanking bays. Single corniced window to wing to right; balustraded parapet over.

NE ELEVATION: wing obscuring ground floor, extending to right; window to centre of 1st floor.

NW (REAR) ELEVATION: 3-bay (main house). Steps to central entrance (now elongated window at ground floor), single window non-aligned above at 1st floor. 3 windows at ground and 1st floor to bowed bay to outer right. Single windows at ground and 1st floor to bay to outer left (spiral iron stair leads to 1st floor window). 2 single dormers at attic to centre and left. Single storey wing section attached to outer left: 2-leaf glazed door to left; quadripartite modern window to right; blank to outer left (single window infilled).

SW ELEVATION: not seen 1999.

Plate glass timber sash and case windows to main house. Slate piend roof; corniced wallhead stacks; circular cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods.

INTERIOR: not seen 1999.

GATEPIERS AND BOUNDARY WALL: low capped gatepiers to entrances to right and left; coped rubble boundary wall encloses site.

Statement of Interest

A good example of later 19th century Victorian villa architecture, with a notable fluted Doric column entrance porch and distinctive balustraded parapet to the wing to right.
