Late 19th century. 3-storey and attic, 4-bay tenement with commercial premises at ground floor. Polished red ashlar. Mutuled shopfront cornice; ornamental frieze and dentilled cornice at 1st floor; balustraded aprons to 2nd floor windows; mutuled cornice; balustraded parapet with dies and ornamental panels. Pilasters divide bays at 1st and 2nd floors (except central bay at 1st floor); ornamental panels within at 1st floor; channelled at 2nd floor; roundels to cornice frieze. Side scrolls to pedimented attic dormers; cartouches to typmpana.
NW (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: timber door at ground to outer left; multi-paned letterbox fanlight; recessed glazed timber door to left; sidelight to left; multi-paned letterbox fanlight; pilasters divide 2 shop windows to right. Regular fenestration at 1st and 2nd floors. 2 dormers at attic.
Modern shop windows at ground (multi-paned to upper section); plate glass timber sash and case windows at 1st and 2nd floors; 2- and 4-pane to upper sashes of attic windows. Grey slate roof; coped gablehead stacks; circular cans; ornamental segmental-headed channelled stacks to outer right and left, rising from balustrades.
INTERIOR: not seen 1998.
Distinctive in its use of red ashlar and its dominant height in the lower terrace of buildings Nos 1-37 (Odd Nos) Sandgate (see separate list descriptions).
