Description

Alexander Ellis, 1870. Small gothic church. Dark local whinstone, grey ashlar margins and dressings. Entrance porch in S elevation; buttressed gable with paired lights to street with small 3-stage spire and fronted by low chapel.

INTERIOR: galleried interior; liturgical E orientated to W: ribbed

vaulted ceiling; gothic style carved wooden reredos with marble front; advanced altar. Panelled dado surmounted by painted Stations of the Cross, each within wooden frame. Plain pews. Small chapel at E gable.

Statement of Interest

Ecclesiastical building in use as such. Church dedicated to Our Lady of Mount Carmel, recalling the medieval Carmelite association in Banff. Presbytery is listed separately.
