Early 19th century. 2-storey with basement, 5-bay, rectangular-plan classical house. Severely stone-cleaned ashlar, painted below ground floor, with coursed whinstone to sides and rear, raised long and short work quoins, moulded window surrounds, architraved at ground floor; mutuled cornice and blocking course.
S (HIGH STREET) ELEVATION: symmetrical. Wide steps with centre and side railings lead to deeply-recessed centre columned and corniced doorpiece, panelled door with ornate fanlight, windows in flanking bays, regular fenestration at 1st and 2nd floors; 19th century rooflights.
E and W elevations each with 1 small centrally situated window at 1st floor.
Plate glass glazing in timber sash and case windows. Grey slates. Ashlar coped skews, gablehead stacks and rainwater hoppers.
INTERIOR: hallway with winding centre stair, bannisters and handrail, egg and dart plaster moulding beneath stair turn; room to W front with elaborate cornice and bellflower swag ceiling decoration.
BOUNDARY WALLS: low saddle-back coped cement-rendered wall with modern railings to S boundary, coped ashlar walls abutting S front of house to E and W with opening at E, ashlar coped whinstone rubble boundary wall to W.
As a result of stone-cleaning the ashlar is seriously damaged with dressings eroded. This building is similar to the Royal Hotel in nearby Seaforth Place.
