1746. 2-storey, 4-bay, L-plan house; later rear extension. Exposed ashlar margins; harling.
S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: 4 ground floor windows. Gap between 1st and 2nd bay. Carved lintel to 2nd window (former door), inscribed 'IS CM 1746'.
W ELEVATION: plain gable wall.
N ELEVATION: window (former door) to near centre; inserted glazed doors to right; 1st floor window above left. Advanced extension to left; 2 windows to N; door and window in right return.
E ELEVATION: 1st floor window to left.
Predominantly 12-pane timber sash and case windows. Shutter rebates for 2 right ground floor windows, S elevation. Replacement doors. Pitched roofs; clay tiles. Scroll skewputts. Gable apex stacks; polygonal cans.
INTERIOR: not seen, 2001.
Interesting features include scroll skewputts and carved lintel. The house stands at the bottom of Newgate, a road that led directly up to the Abbey. For brief history of Culross Burgh see Culross, The Cross, The Study.
