Description

Later 19th century. 2-storey, attic and basement, 3-bay villa. Stugged, squared and snecked masonry , basement ashlar to S, ashlar dressings. Band course between ground and 1st floor to S; string course between ground floor and basement. Eaves course, overhanging eaves. Raised long and short quoins. Raised margins and chamfered reveals.

S (WAVERLEY ROAD) ELEVATION: heavy corniced doorpiece at centre with raised surround; pierced balcony above with diamond motif; panelled door and plate glass fanlight; Venetian vestibule screen. Ashlar perron stair to door; semi-circular arched opening to S, with iron grille. Tripartite window to centre at 1st floor. Full-height canted window in bay to left, cornice between ground and 1st floors; ogee headed opening at basement. Canted window at ground in bay to right with cornice and blocking course; tripartite window in advanced panel at 1st floor with stop-chamfered angles; ogee headed opening at basement.

N ELEVATION: blank to right of centre. Tall tripartite stair window at centre. Window in rectangular projection to ground to left, with chamfered angle to right; small understair window flanking . 2 windows to left at 1st floor.

W ELEVATION: 3-bay. 2-leaf glazed doors at centre to glazed greenhouse adjoined to centre bay. Canted window at ground in bay to left with cornice and blocking course. Window at ground in bay to right. Regular fenestration at 1st floor. Off-set stack between centre and right bays.

E ELEVATION: window at ground, and 2 at 1st floor. L-plan piend roofed single storey service wings adjoined to right; irregular fenestration ; lean-to coal shed adjoined to re-entrant to right.

Plate glass glazing pattern in sash and case windows to principal elevations. 3 varied dormer windows in S pitch, piended and canted, gabled and canted and gabled and stepped. 3-light dormer to left to W pitch. Corniced shouldered stacks; 2 ridge, wallhead to left and right to E, to right to N and to right of centre to W. Low piend and platform roof. Grey slates. Some original cans.

INTERIOR: fine plasterwork, including grape-detailed cornice. Attic sub-divided into rooms.

STABLE AND COACH HOUSE (NOW GARAGE): single storey and attic, to N. Brick. Overhanging eaves. Grey slates. Pierced red ridge tiles. Gablehead stack to E.

S ELEVATION: enlarged carriage shed doors in advanced bay at centre; window in mock timber-framed gable above, further advanced on tree trunk piers; pulley hoist. Large door, enlarged from 2 stable doors, to left; tack room window to right. Cat-slide dormer window to right.

E ELEVATION: door to right of centre and window to right. Boarded opening in gablehead, triangular and open at apex with scalloped edges.

W ELEVATION: window. Timber shed adjoined.
