Description

Earlier 19th century. 2-storey, attic and basement
symmetrical 3-bay classical house. Red sandstone coursed
rubble with droved ashlar dressings and facade. Raised plain
margins; rusticated quoins. Plate glass sash windows and
12-pane glazing.
N ENTRANCE FRONT: stone flight of steps with decorative
wrought-iron balustrades. Ionic doorpiece with cornice and
blocking course; panelled door and fanlight. Symmetrical
fenestration; 2 slated dormers.
S FACE: full-height canted bay at centre with door at
basement level and 2 lights to 1st and 2nd floor.
W FRONT: full-height gabled extension block circa 1896.
Rendered concrete, resting on and overhanging single storey
basement projection. Mock windows, door and oriel window.
Designed for photographic dark room, pantry, bathroom and
lift, by Henry F Kerr, Edinburgh.
E FACE: flat-roofed extension block to basement and ground
floor with door and windows to E.
Basement windows altered at sides and rear.
INTERIOR: much altered: some decorative plasterwork and
shutters remaining.
