Description

Thomas Keir 1884. Simple rectangular-plan 2 by 6-bay church, rubble-built with ashlar Romanesque details.

E GABLE: Stepped corbel-table. Central round window with relocated 1866 datestone over. Round-headed keystoned lights flank gabled porch curved door lintel. Semi-circular keystoned window.

Slate roof. Celtic cross finial at E, wrought-iron finial at W gable. Windows cathedral-paned at sides, toughened at E, with coloured patterns in round window.

Statement of Interest

Ecclesiastical Building in use as such. Union Street was renamed Bright Street in 1889 on the death of John Bright of the Anti-Corn Law League. The 1866 armorial has been moved from the Baptist's earlier chapel.
