Description

W B D Keith, (really Vernon Constable), 1921. Single storey and attic, square-plan, classical-style lodge. Sandstone ashlar with snecked rubble at recessed window panels, grey slate roof. Base course, entablature with moulded architrave, cornice and blocking course; 12-pane sash and case windows, semi-circular leaded lunette-dormers with small-pane casements to attic; pyramidal roof with corniced apex stack, 4 uniform cans.

S ELEVATION: 3-bay, symmetrical. 6-panel 2-leaf door at centre with fanlight and moulded doorcase, engaged Ionic column doorpiece supporting slightly advanced entablature, lunette-dormer above; windows at left and right in slightly recessed rectangular panels.

N ELEVATION: door with fanlight in recessed panel at left window adjoining at right; round-headed multi-pane stair window at centre with cornice and parapet breaking through entablature; blank panel at right.

E AND W ELEVATION: 2 windows in slightly recessed panels as at S, lunette-dormer above.

WALL AND GATEPIERS: boundary wall at E with 2 capped gatepiers; 2 further gatepiers with mannered caps forming quadrant.

INTERIOR: original chimneypieces; scale and platt staircase with timber geometric design balusters.

Statement of Interest

The lodge was built when Claremont (61 AlbanyRoad/102 Strathern Road, listed separately) was enlarged by W B D Keith William Boyd of Keillers; the quadrant and gatepiers form part of the entrance to Claremont.
