Late 18th-early 19th century. 2-storey and basement; 3-bay; rectangular-plan farmhouse. Symmetrical principal (S) elevation with classical detailing to slightly advanced central entrance bay. Harled exterior with painted ashlar dressings. Architraved openings. Vertical margins at angles.

S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: slightly advanced central entrance bay with openings set within full-height round-arched recessed panel; entrance architrave in style of Palladian window (flanking outer lights blocked); modern part-glazed door with fanlight. Tripartite thermal segmental-headed window above. Window to each floor to flanking bays (those to basement are blocked).

N ELEVATION: irregular arrangement. Entrance with 2 windows to right to to left bay. Later lean-to to right with entrance to right return. 1st floor windows to central and right bays. Single storey sandstone rubble outbuildings (that to left partially rendered) adjoin set forward to either side.

W ELEVATION: opening to centre of basement; window to each floor above. Single storey sandstone rubble outbuilding adjoins to outer left.

E ELEVATION: irregular fenestration; window to left of ground floor; 2 to right of 1st floor. Single storey partially rendered rubble outbuilding adjoins to outer right.

Mainly 4-pane timber sash and case windows. Piended grey slate roof (also to outbuildings). Pair of ridge stacks with band courses; round cans.

INTERIOR: not inspected (1999).

BOUNDARY WALL: sandstone rubble wall with squared and rubble coping encloses garden to S.

Statement of Interest

The farmhouse has unusual classical detailing (using a slightly clumsy version of motifs usually employed on grander buildings) to its principal (S) elevation. Semi-ruinous steading buildings still standing to the N (1999).
