Description

Mid-late 18th century. 2-storey, S facing 3-bay
farmhouse reorientated in early 19th century to W. With
additional 2-storey, 5-bay range forming main facade.
Coursed sandstone ashlar and dressings; raised margins,
giant angle pilasters, cornice and low parapet.
Random whinstone rubble in with sandstone dressings to
sides and rear; harled side and rear elevations to W
facing range.
W ELEVATION: doorway in advanced 2-storey central bay
with bartisans and crenellated parapet breaking eaves.
Attached columned doorpiece, with architrave and cornice.
Radial fanlight and side lights to panelled door.
Window to 1st floor above with hoodmould.
Windows to flanking bays at ground floor, smaller
windows to 1st floor.
S ELEVATION: single bay side with 1 blocked windows to
each floor elevation of facade/projecting at right.
Adjoining 18th century farmhouse; doorway at centre
with moulded architrave and strip fanlight. Windows to
flanking bays. 3 windows at 1st floor; brick relieving
arch to outer left.
2 irregular openings in E; gable end; workshop at
ground.
Blank gable end to N adjoining station platform canopy.
Sash and case windows; 12-pane glazing pattern;
lying-pane glazing to ground floor W front.
Grey slates to farmhouse and piend roofed facade; some
skylights at rear.
Straight skews, renewed brick shouldered stacks.
Wallhead stacks to W front with bracketted cornice.

Statement of Interest

Feu from Phantassie; became Dower house in 1799 and reoriented

(door surround recalls that of Phantassie late 18th century)

with new wing and facade. Sold to railway in 1845. Became

private house in 1960's. Currently a furniture workshop.
