Description

Possibly late 17th century foundation but largely reconstructed in the 19th century. Single storey, gabled, rectangular-plan vault built into higher ground at SE. Located in wooded area to NE of Malleny House. Stugged sandstone with polished ashlar margins and dressings; chamfered reveals.

NW ELEVATION: 3 bays, blocked and barred door at centre; armorial plaque and inscribed 'closed by Colonel Francis Cunningham Scott C B 1884'. Flanking windows blocked. Pierced trefoil at gablehead.

Gabled slate roof with ashlar coping to skews.

Statement of Interest

The vault is intact but set within a much overgrown area. The vault was sealed by Colonel Cunningham Scott in 1884.
