Description

1860. Pink sandstone and granite fountain, formerly with water jets. Low, semi-circular moulded granite drinking troughs to each side of square-plan base with plain pilasters flanking outer section of each side. Drum-shaped upper member with carved swags; large urn finial with gadrooning.

Statement of Interest

According to Baird, a storm in 1877 greatly damaged the promenade and "the only part ...saved was between Bath Street and Melville Street, upon which stands an ornate stone fountain presented by Mr Paterson, formerly Town Clerk from 1836 to 1874. Even this was considerably damaged." (p 413).
