Description

Circa 1783/6. renovated 1826. Rectangular plan coursed rubble, 2 arched and keyblocked windows on flank 1-window ground and gallery level either side; 1-door 1-window each gable, square corbelled North bellcote with arched and keyblocked openings ogee cap and weathercock; coursed rubble, slated. Castellated sandstone ashlar and rendered archway (1899) to Lanark Road with small round pedestrian archway to left (E), crucifix motif at apex, larger segmental vehicular archway to right (W); chamfered voussoirs; pitched roof; red clay tiles and ridge. Cast-iron gates with fleur-de-lys finials.

Statement of Interest

B group with 43 Lanark Road (Cross Keys Inn), 45 Lanark Road (former manse), and 47 Lanark Road (see separate listings). The interior scheme of the former Burger Church was changed in 1826. It is now in use as a commercial premises (2008). The castellated and arched gateway gives an indication of the ecclesiastical architecture which lies behind it.
