Description

Circa 1863 with later additions. 2-storey, 3-bay made 5-bay soon after (by sympathetic single storey extension to E and 2-storey to W) irregular-plan villa. Squared and snecked sandstone rubble; lightly stugged ashlar with polished dressings to S elevation. Base course; blocking course; cornice; quoin strips to extensions and rusticated quoins to original house; architraved windows; bracketted cills; balustraded parapet with ashlar dies.

E (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: central doorpiece with pilasters, entablature, and blocking course; panelled door; plate glass fanlight; single window above and in remaining bays (additional bay to left slightly recessed).

W ELEVATION: forestair to secondary entrance at 1st floor.

E ELEVATION: single storey extension to outer left; 2-storey service wing to outer right.

N ELEVATION: advanced service wing to outer left with small flat-roofed addition and tripartite window at 1st floor; round-arched sash and case stair window to centre; advanced bays to outer right.

4-pane sashand case windows to S elevation ground floor; uPVC replacement windows at 1st floor; mixture of plate glass, 12-pane, and replacement sash and case windows elesewhere. Flat roof; 2 wallhead stacks.

INTERIOR (NO 49): tripartite vestibule door with etched glass panels; decorative plaster mouldings; encaustic tiled floor.
