Description

William Hogg, 1886. 4-storey, 5-bay Scottish 17th century style tenement, forming part of terrace. Squared and snecked sandstone with contrasting polished ashlar dressings. Base course; corbel table at 3rd floor stepped down to form segmental-arched hoods between bays at 2nd floor; chamfered reveals; deep set panelled doors; plate glass fanlights; relieving arches to doorways.

E ENTRANCE elevation: doorway at ground in central (3rd bay); single windows above; roll-moulded doorway, flanked to left by single window, in 4th bay; single windows above; 3rd and 4th bays linked at eaves by crowstepped gable; slit window set in gablehead. Roll-moulded doorway, flanked to right by single window, in 2nd bay; single windows above; finialled semi-circular dormerhead to 3rd floor window. Altered shopfront at ground in advanced bay to outer right; cornice above; finial. Full-height canted window in bay to outer left, corbelled to square at crowstepped gable; arrow slit in gablehead. Plate glass sash and case windows. Grey slate roof; corniced gablehead stack; coped and rendered mutual stacks; crowstepped gable adjoining tenement to N. INTERIORS: not seen 1991.
