Andrew Balfour and Stewart, 1924-6. 6 storeys and
basement commercial building. Steel frame with Blaxter
stone facades, rusticated 1st floor, brick E side and
rear. 5 bays to St Vincent Street arranged 1-3-1, 8 to
Renfield Street arranged 1-2-2-2-1, street elevations
similarly detailed. Massive segmentally pedimented
doorpiece to St Vincent Street with figure sculpture and
coat of arms. Marble doorpiece to No 20 Renfield Street
with lion mask over.
Greek-key frieze over ground floor. 1st-3rd floors:
simply detailed margined windows to centre bays outer
with boldly consoled cornices at 1st, 2nd and 3rd in
linking frame with stylised husk deoration; upper 2
storeys giant pilastrade to inner bays, outer windows
with giant pilasters; balconies to 4th. Swag frieze with
lion masks and modillion cornice with acroters; low
INTERIOR: marble Corinthian pilastered banking hall,
coffered ceiling with modillions. Chimneypiece with
marble canopy on sculpted corbels. Bracketted mahogany
