Description

Late 17th century. 2-storey, 2-bay L-plan house with basket-arched pend to rear courtyard, abutting further rectangular-plan house (also Number 43), forming SW side of main courtyard opening onto Albert Street. Harl-pointed rubble with painted ashlar dressings. Plain margins to windows; moulded architrave to door.

NE (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: modern timber door at ground in bay to right; window at 1st floor above. Window at each floor in bay to left. Relieving arch over pend entrance to outer left.

SE (SIDE) ELEVATION: 2-bay. Window at ground in bay to left. relieving arch over pend entrance at ground in bay to left; window at each floor above; gablehead stack.

2-pane timber sash and case windows. Grey slate roof; rubble gablehead stack to SE with harled extension; predominantly cast-iron rainwater goods.

INTERIOR; not seen, 1998.

Statement of Interest

With its principle elevation forming the back wall of a courtyard off Albert Street, the pend entrance leads to a further courtyard to the rear. Traditional Caithness flagstones remain intact in both courtyards.
