William Burn, 1839. 3-storey, 7-bay, classical, corner site bank premises. Sandstone ashlar to front, squared and snecked to rear, base course, band course above ground floor, 1st and 2nd floor cill cornice, eaves cornice, blocking course.
W (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: ground floor altered, partly re-faced in lined render, central pilastered and corniced doorpiece, windows to left with battered cills, windows to right with narrow, blocked former doorway to centre, cills lowered. 4 bays at 1st and 2nd symmetrical, architraved margins.
N (JOHN STREET) ELEVATION: 5 bays, plain margins, entrance to left, single leaf, boldly panelled and studded door, rectangular 12-pane fanlight.
E ELEVATION: asymmetrical, gable end to right, piended section to left. 2-storey building (4/6 John St) abutting to right, blank gable end above, windows between floors to centre, bay to left with windows at each floor centred, narrow windows flanking at 2nd, that to left blocked.
S ELEVATION: adjoining 35 High Street.
Timber sash and case windows,12-pane to side rear, plate glass to front and John St at ground, grey slate, stone skews to S, ashlar gablehead stack to S, 2 ashlar stacks above eaves to N, 1 ridge stack to N roof, 1 ashlar stack to S at party wall with No 35, polygonal cans, lead flashing to blocking course.
INTERIOR: completely modernized at ground, office accommodation at 1st with decorative cornices in principal rooms to W. Quarter turn staircase with landings and cast-iron banisters to rear.
Ground floor still in use as the Bank of Scotland's Montrose branch.
