John Adam, 1765. Narrow rectangular 4-storey, 7-bay granary/ warehouse fronting Old Harbour. Random rubble ground floor masonry, elsewhere cherry-pointed (galletted) rubble; tooled ashlar dressings. Symmetrical elevation with 5 wide ground floor entrances with plank
doors, 1st floor with single windows in bays 2 and 6, 2nd and 3rd floors with windows grouped in 3s in outer bays. Symmetrical rear elevation with 3 entrances in 1st floor (raised ground floor due to sloping site); regular 7-bay fenestration in upper floors. Single 3rd and 4th floor windows in N and S (blocked) return gables. Modern glazing; piended slate roof.
Papers reveal that the ground floor of this building incorporates masonry from an earlier corf (salmon) house referred to as 'Lord Findlater's Corf House'. John Adam's letter of 19 May 1765 advocates a narrow 'granary' on grounds of expense. In an A Group with
10 Shorehead and the Warehouse to E, the Portsoy Marble Workshop, the Old Co-operative Grain Store and the Old Harbour.
