Description

Early 19th century with later alterations and additions. Low single storey 3-bay cottage with modern monopitch projection to S from E. Painted render; harled later projection.

N (SOUTH STREET) ELEVATION: window in bay to right.

S ELEVATION: boarded door to centre with window to each flanking bay (small window in bay to left). Window to return W elevation of projection to outer right.

8- and 4-pane timber sash and case windows; modern window to projection. Slate roof; thick, irregular and graded slates to S; smooth later slates to N with diamond pattern to centre and modern projection. Brick wallhead stack to E and rendered wallhead stack to W.

INTERIOR: not seen, 1995.

Statement of Interest

The house appears to be from the earlier period of Gavinton?s existence and therefore might pre-date 1800. Unlike several of the buildings from that period in Gavinton, the house was not raised to 2-storey, during 19th century.
