Description

Probably late 18th century, with series of later 19th century additions. Original of harled rubble with ashlar dressings, additions of stugged, squared and snecked sandstone, with advanced polished and droved dressings. Base course.

S (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: ground floor spanned by later single storey stone passageway with gabled porch at centre; panelled timber door with fanlight, flanked by windows to outer bays. Regular fenestration to bays at 1st floor, grouped towards centre. Later gabled wing to E comprising large tripartite window at ground, with window aligned above. Single storey service wing advanced to left, with double gable, facing S; tripartite window to right with tooled panel in gable; window and door to left..

E ELEVATION: advanced gable at right, with window to outer left at 1st floor.

N ELEVATION: 3-bay to original house, at centre, window at centre to ground, flanked by smaller window at right, with window aligned above, and nepus gable window, breaking eaves, aligned above to attic. Window in bay to right with window aligned above, and piend-roofed dormer window to attic. Large window to bay at left with window above, flanked by smaller window to right, with piend-roofed dormer window to attic. Wing to E comprising French window at ground to N, with steps and modern railing; window hugging eaves above. 2 windows to single storey rubble wing to W, with 2-storey gable to outer right.

W ELEVATION: window at 1st floor, to left.

Timber sash and case windows. Graded grey slate roof. Cast-iron rainwater goods. Ashlar and harled ashlar gablehead stacks, coped with circular cans. Skews and bracket skewputts.

INTERIOR: not seen 1997.

BOUNDARY WALL: tall, random rubble boundary wall, with semicircular coping, to E.

OUTBUILDINGS: variety of stugged, squared and snecked sandstone and rubble outbuildings to W, including 2-storey service wing, harled to W, with timber-mullioned bipartite windows to attic; single storey wing, with 2 doors and fenestration facing N; piend-roofed, cement-rendered garage, with boarded folding timber doors.

Leuchold has previously been used as the Dalmeny estate factor's house.
