Possibly 18th century in part with later additions and alterations. 2-storey, 3-bay, originally rectangular-plan farmhouse with full-height, gabled projection to front; single storey gabled porch; 2-storey wing at rear forming near L-plan with single storey, lean-to addition in rear re-entrant angle. Whitewashed harl; droved cream sandstone dressings. Narrow strip quoins to gabled projection; plain margins and projecting cills throughout. Single storey with attic, rectangular-plan ancillary structure (stable?) to NW. Further single storey, 2-bay ancillary structure to NW (store). Near rectangular-plan walled garden to NW.
SE (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: single window in ball-finialled porch advanced at centre; blind sandstone panel aligned above. Single window at 1st floor recessed above porch; single windows at both floors to outer right. Ball-finialled, gabled projection to outer left with canted window centred at ground; tripartite window at 1st floor (narrow side-lights); blind sandstone panel centred in gablehead.
NE (SIDE) ELEVATION: 2-bay gable end to left with single windows at both floors in both bays. Timber panelled door in single storey porch recessed to outer left. Irregularly fenestrated 2-storey wing recessed to right with single windows in lean-to addition in re-entrant angle to left.
NW (REAR) ELEVATION: projecting wing to right with single storey, lean-to addition recessed to left; 2-storey entrance block set behind.
SW (SIDE) ELEVATION: gable end to right with single windows at both floors to left; full-height, single bay addition to outer right with single window at ground; blocked opening above. Irregularly fenestrated 2-storey wing recessed to outer left.
Predominantly 4-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows; some modern glazing. Grey slate roofs; stone-coped skews. Corniced sandstone apex stacks; octagonal cans. Some original rainwater goods.
INTERIOR: not seen 1999.
ANCILLARY STRUCTURE (STABLE): whitewashed harl. SE (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: 2-leaf, boarded timber door off-set to left of centre; piended dormer aligned above. Boarded timber stable doors in penultimate bays to outer left and right; single windows set between. Corrugated-iron piended roof. INTERIOR: not seen 1999. Cobbled path to front.
ANCILLARY STRUCTURE (STORE): harl-pointed rubble; sandstone dressings. NW (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: boarded timber doors in both bays. Grey slate piended roof. INTERIOR: not seen 1999.
WALLED GARDEN: rubble-walled, near rectangular-plan walled garden (approximately 2,000m?) to NW house.
BOUNDARY WALLS AND GATEPIERS: coped rubble walls partially enclosing site. Corniced, squared-plan sandstone gatepiers flanking entrance; pyramidal caps; timber gates.
A good example of its type, notable for its timber windows and corniced stacks, as well as the survival of its ancillary structures, walled garden and gatepiers. The farm steading is set across the road to the NW. Thomson notes a Mr Peter Cowe as tenant here in 1908. Originally set in a detached portion of Oldhamstocks parish (since incorporated within Coldingham).
